Dear Stanford Community in Washington State,

Put some sense and sensibility into your summer with AllLearn's
new course on Jane Austen and the creation of the English romance
novel. AllLearn is an alliance between Stanford, Oxford, and Yale
that provides lifelong learning opportunities for alumni.

This is the time of year when Stanford clubs elect new officers.
I'd like to recognize and thank Ken Hosac, '89, MS '98, as he
finishes up a two-year term as president of the Stanford Club of
Washington. We now enthusiastically welcome Doug Wake, '74, into
the presidency! Thank you to all of the local leaders who help
create a Stanford community in Washington year-round!

Events tend to slow down over the summer, so I'll not be sending
a newsletter to you in July. If you have any Stanford specific items
for the August newsletter, be sure to let me know. I hope you enjoy
the sunshine and the 4th of July holiday.

Until August,

Jen

Dear Washington State Stanford alumni and parents,

As you can see below, there is a lot of alumni activity in Washington
state this month! From a trip to the Frye art museum, to a men's
basketball game, to a trivia contest, there are many chances to
connect with Stanford friends.

If you’re thinking of a trip back to the Farm, Saturday, March 6 is
a day to consider. In addition to over 15 extraordinary faculty-taught
classes, this year’s Alumni Day program offers a glimpse of
alumni-owned art on display at the Cantor Arts Center, along with
performances by student actors, musicians, and filmmakers.
Alumni Day 2004

And don’t despair that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow…for
the next six weeks of winter you can escape the cold by joining
Stanford’s Book Salon. This month’s selection is “Atonement,”
by Ian McEwan. Check out all of the lifelong learning opportunities
at Stanford Book Salon.

UW Huskies on September 27. Stay tuned for more details about
tickets to the game and the pregame tailgate at Husky stadium.
If you can't wait until then to catch the football team in
action, and you find yourself in the Bay Area, come watch the
team take on San Jose State in the opening game of the season on
September 6. Admission to the game is free for alumni.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

CAMPUS HAPPENINGS
--------------------------------------------------------------

Summer brings many visitors to campus, especially in the form
of overnight camps for students of all ages. One new program
this year is a science camp launched by NASA astronaut Sally
Ride, '73, MS '75, PhD '78. The camp offers middle school
girls an opportunity to explore science and have fun. Each
camper will spend a week "majoring" in Astronomy, Structural
Engineering, or Bio-Engineering.

And when summer gets hot, there's no better way to stay cool
than the 2003 Stanford Jazz Festival. This annual showcase
will bring more than 100 musicians to campus throughout the
month, from jazz legends to emerging talent.
