About
the Exhibit:
Although Louis Tiffany was trained as a painter, at the age of 24 he began
studying the chemistry and techniques of glassmaking. In 1885 Tiffany established his own decorating firm but spent much time
focussing on new methods of glass manufacture, and Tiffany's glass became his most important contribution to the art world.
Stanford Professor David Beach will give a lecture in connection with this special exhibit.
He will discuss the manufacturing methods associated with studio and mass-produced glass and explore the relationships between
the transformation of these materials and the resulting design qualities.
